The San Francisco Giants have avoided arbitration with outfielder Gregor Blanco for the final two years of his current eligibility period, reaching an agreement on a two-year, $7.5 million contract.
Per Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle, "Blanco, 31, will earn $3.6 million in 2015 and $3.9 million in 2016 under the deal, which is not official but was confirmed by The Chronicle. When the two sides exchanged arbitration figures for next season Friday, Blanco sought $4 million. The team offered $3.3 million."
With Angel Pagan having battled injuries the past two seasons, the Giants have relied heavily on Blanco's bat and defensive presence in left and center field to fill some of that void.
A career .257 hitter, Blanco posted a career-high .707 OPS in 2014 and will likely slot in as the team's projected fourth outfielder with last week's signing of free-agent outfielder Nori Aoki.
