The SF Giants checked in with the Miami Marlins earlier this offseason about veteran starting pitcher Dan Haren, according to a report by FOX Sports' Jon Morosi:
#SFGiants inquired to #Marlins about Dan Haren earlier this offseason, sources say. Talks occurred before Giants re-signed Jake Peavy.

Haren likely would embrace chance to play in NL West again, in a pitcher-friendly ballpark. #SFGiants — Jon Morosi (@jonmorosi) January 7, 2015
While Haren has informed the Marlins that he wants to continue his career on the West Coast, the Giants' recent re-signing of fellow veteran arm Jake Peavy may have taken them out of the trade market for Haren regardless of Tim Hudson's recent ankle surgery.
At least, that's what VP and assistant GM Bobby Evans told the San Francisco Chronicle's Henry Schulman:
Evans: #sfgiants were not actively trying to add a major-league starter before this, and this won’t change, but always seeking to add depth.

The 34-year-old Haren went 13-11 with a 4.02 ERA and 145/36 K/BB ratio in 186 innings (32 starts) for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2014. He has reportedly threatened retirement if he doesn't get his wish of being shipped back to a West Coast ballclub.
