In this Giants rumors and news update, the San Francisco Giants might be of the mind to start buying bullpen help before the July 31st non-waiver trade deadline - with three key names standing as potential options if they decide to be aggressive in their search.
According to Paul Matli of iSportsWeb, "should GM Brian Sabean choose to bolster his bullpen there’s quite a few names that could potentially come available that could help the team. Arms like Koji Uehara of the Boston Red Sox, Joaquin Benoit of the San Diego Padres and Joaquin Soria are probably the three most known arms. However, there’s more solid arms out there as well that the Giants haven’t been linked to yet."
Both Jean Machi and Sergio Romo have struggled mightily over recent weeks, forcing manager Bruce Bochy to displace them as setup man and closer respectively. Adding a proven arm in the vein of the names above could help to alleviate some of the pressure both pitchers are feeling, giving them time to work out their difficulties before the September stretch run.
