San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Tim Lincecum has thrown his second no-hitter in just under a year against the San Diego Padres, as the Giants blanked the Padres 4-0 on Wednesday afternoon at AT&T Park in SF.
Lincecum was near perfect on Wednesday, walking just one batter and striking out three while inducing a steady host of groundballs and weak fly outs from a punchless Padres lineup. Lincecum was also extremely economical with his pitch count, not reaching 100 pitches until the 9th inning.
This may come as déjà vu for Giants fans, as Lincecum did the exact same thing at Petco Park on July 13th last season - completely baffling Padres hitters while changing speeds and location with accuracy and touch.
Lincecum wasn't just great on the mound, either - he went 2-for-3 at the plate on Wednesday with a walk and two runs scored, providing half of his own run support during his date with destiny.
With his second no-hitter in a Giants uniform, Lincecum joins Christy Mathewson as the only pitchers in the team's history to throw multiple no-hitters.
With Lincecum struggling through another inconsistent season in 2014, a beautiful performance such as this one could be just what he needs to reestablish himself as one of the most feared arms in the game.
Chat Sports will have more on this historic afternoon at AT&T Park as the day goes on.
