We're just about a week away from the quarter pole of the 2015 MLB season, which means it's a good time to step back and assess what we've seen out of the San Francisco Giants this year. Here's 3 Things We've Learned So Far About The Giants In 2015.
1. Pitching Consistency Is Saving The Giants
We'll get into the offense in a second, but let's take some time to give credit where credit is due. The bullpen has done more than an adequate job the last 20 games both holding leads and keeping deficits from getting out of hand, and the starting pitching led by a resurgent Tim Lincecum (2.43 ERA) has plenty of wind in its sails going forward. If the Giants can keep this consistency going and the offense catches fire, S.F. will once again be the favorites in the National League.
2. The Offense Is Slowly Starting To Figure Itself Out
The team has struggled all year stringing together hits with runners in scoring position, but there's been flickering signs here and there pointing to a complete reversal of fortune. Keep your eye on Brandon Crawford and Angel Pagan. Crawford's been finding his groove to all fields as of late and Pagan's been spraying dinks and dunks across the nation all campaign long. Both are candidates to heat up for month-long stretches and both are key to this offense reaching its full potential at their different slots in the lineup.
3. This Is A Resilient Bunch
The Giants are 13-8 after a 4-10 start, riding a wave of quality pitching up and down the board to pull the team out of a troublesome early spiral. The critics who felt compelled to write off the defending champs a couple weeks in are the same who are eating their words watching Madison Bumgarner and crew miss bats over and over again. The Giants are in striking distance heading towards the dog days of summer, and that's all this experienced bunch needs to kick open the door for good.
