How does it feel to be a part of a true baseball dynasty, San Francisco Giants fans? It's been a whirlwind half-decade for the franchise, with 2014 bringing with it the team's third World Series championship in five years. Many skeptics are counting on the odd-year curse to strike down the defending champs in 2015, but we just don't see that happening. Here's 3 Reasons The 2015 San Francisco Giants Can Win The World Series.
1. Buster $%^#-ing Posey
Most teams just hope to break even by finding a starting catcher with one (or maybe two) of the three strengths that makes Buster Posey just so damn great: lethal hitting, intelligent behind-the-plate work, and an undeniable knack for leading teammates into battle. People can point to the losses of Pablo Sandoval and Michael Morse all they want. When you have the multifaceted Buster Posey on your side, such subtractions aren't as daunting as they may seem at first glance.
2. Starting rotation upside
Madison Bumgarner's emergence as one of the game's true aces is impressive enough, but there's plenty of potential for greatness behind him as well. If Matt Cain can return to 90-95% of his peak 2009-12 form and veterans Jake Peavy and Tim Hudson continue to refine and adjust like they've been paid to do for so very long, a rotation projected to be merely good by many analysts will become undeniably great.
3. Under-the-radar pickups
No organization in Major League Baseball is better at picking through unsigned free agents and underutilized depth pieces with a fine-toothed comb, unearthing major contributors like Gregor Blanco and Travis Ishikawa seemingly out of thin air. A guy like outfielder Justin Maxwell, who's been death to lefty pitchers his whole career, is just the latest example of a forgotten bit piece brought in by GM Brian Sabean that very well should pay major dividends when the chips are on the table.
