SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- Returning to the Hilltop after their first road game of the season, the USF Dons baseball team (4-2) picked up a gritty, series opening 7-3 victory over the Villanova Wildcats (1-7) on Friday afternoon behind some quality pitching and timely hits on a sunny day at Benedetti Diamond.
Led by another strong outing from USF starting pitcher Adam Shew who tossed six innings and allowed only two earned runs, the Dons pitching staff tossed six consecutive scoreless innings to end the game and pick up their fourth win of the year. The Dons' offense was able to come alive too as Michael Campagna and Patrick Keighran connected on back-to-back home runs as USF stormed back from the early deficit.
