SAN FRANCISCO – Second-year head coach Kyle Smith is off to an impressive start at the helm of the University of San Francisco men's basketball team. The Dons' 80-67 win over Pepperdine on Saturday was Smith's 50th as head coach. USF is now 30-20 under Smith, which is the fourth-best record in program history through 50 games.
Smith's 50 wins are an accumulation of the Dons 10-7 mark in the 2017-18 campaign, and the 20-13 finish last season. Smith's start ties him with former Dons head coach James Needles who coached the Dons from 1923-31 and again in 1941-43.
