SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The San Francisco women's tennis team dropped its season opener on Friday afternoon at the Spare Time Indoor Tennis Center, running into a Sacramento State squad clicking on all cylinders.
USF (0-1) was upended by the Hornets (1-0) in sweeping fashion, leaving the Dons hungry for their first point of the regular season. Despite the lopsided final score, three of USF's singles matches were played to the fullest, with the Dons' Nos. 2, 3 and 4 players forcing a third set.
Playing from the second position, Emily Maxfield took the first set from Karina Vyrlan before her opponent took wins in the final two frames to earn the point.
