With rookie inside linebacker Rueben Foster expected to miss multiple games with a high ankle sprain, the 49ers added another rookie inside linebacker Wednesday.
The team signed Elijah Lee, a seventh-round pick, off the Vikings’ practice squad. In a corresponding move, they waived offensive tackle John Theus, a 2016 fifth-round pick.
Lee, 21, declared for the draft after he was a first-team All-Big 12 selection at Kansas State as a junior. The 49ers hosted Lee for a pre-draft visit.
“He was someone we were interested in through the draft,” head coach Kyle Shanahan said. “We had our eye on him.
