Sunday evening the Miami Dolphins hired 49ers offensive coordinator to be their new head coach, replacing Brian Flores. McDaniel signed a four-year contract with the Dolphins according to reports. San Francisco will receive third round compensatory draft picks in 2022 and 2023 because McDaniel is biracial.
From 2017 to 2020, Kyle Shanahan did not have anyone with the offensive coordinator title on his staff. Mike LaFleur served as pass game coordinator and Mike McDaniel the run game coordinator.
After LaFleur left with Robert Saleh to join the New York Jets, Shanahan finally gave McDaniel the offensive coordinator title.
