Will Redmond, 49ers’ 3rd-round pick, won’t play in 2016

Rookie cornerback Will Redmond will be ready to play.

In 2017.

The 49ers’ third-round pick will be placed on season-ending injured reserve today because of a torn ACL he sustained at Mississippi State 13 months ago. In April, after he used the No. 68 pick on Redmond, general manager Trent Baalke was asked why he just didn’t use the selection on a player who “healthy” and “ready to go.”

“He will be healthy,” Baalke said. “He will be ready to go. So that’s a simple answer to a simple question.”

Redmond began the season on injured reserve, but last month the 49ers designated him as their lone player who could return from IR this season.
