The stunning 49ers’ deal sending star defensive lineman DeForest Buckner to the Colts for a first-round pick Monday was quite a surprising move for the defending NFC Champions.
However, given the 49ers’ tenuous salary cap situation, it was certainly an understandable trade as Buckner was in line for a massive contract that Indianapolis wound up immediately providing him — a reported $21 million per season over five years.
