Why the pass-rush needy 49ers didn’t draft a pass-rusher

The 49ers, a team with nine picks and no players with more than 10 career sacks on their roster, did something surprising in the NFL draft: They didn’t select one edge rusher.

Yes, after finishing with the sixth-fewest sacks (30) in the league, the 49ers did nothing to address what is arguably their biggest weakness.

General manager John Lynch was asked about the omission from his draft class.

“Those guys are difficult to find, first and foremost,” Lynch said. “We felt like there were a couple guys who had an opportunity to be special there. You know, just where we were (in the daft), we didn’t have an opportunity or chose not to take them.
