Why Fred Warner’s injury might be good news for 49ers

When the San Francisco 49ers opened up their organized team activities (OTAs) last week, head coach Kyle Shanahan began his opening press conference by updating the local media on various injuries across the squad.

Included in that mix was news about second-year middle linebacker Fred Warner:

Fred Warner (knee) is also out until training camp. Huge opportunity for Dre Greenlaw to get a ton of reps during OTAs. #49ers

Warner, who started all 16 games a rookie last season, finishing the year with 124 tackles, three for loss and a forced fumble, as 49ers.
