SANTA CLARA — If the 49ers are to draft a Stanford player for a third straight year, cornerback Quenton Meeks is a fit.
Meeks’ 6-foot-2 frame comes with the prototypical style desired by the 49ers, and his NFL roots have him prepared for the next level.
Now, seeing as he’s projects as a Round 2 or 3 prospect, he may not exactly follow in the lofty footsteps of first-round selections Joshua Garnett (2016) and Solomon Thomas (2017).
What makes Meeks salivate is the prospect of joining another Stanford player on the roster: cornerback Richard Sherman.
“Oh my gosh, that would be a dream come true, honestly, just to learn from the best,” Meeks said at the 49ers’ workout Wednesday for local draft prospects.
