Why do 49ers keep adding to offensive line depth?

SANTA CLARA — All five starters from the 49ers offensive line are back from last season, but they’re not all completely healthy yet, so improving the team continues to add depth and options.

Wesley Johnson signed a one-year deal Tuesday to give the 49ers veteran experience at center as Weston Richburg recovers from quadriceps and knee surgery this offseason.

Johnson (6-foot-5, 309 pounds) appeared in 10 games with the Dolphins last season, joining them in October once former 49ers center Daniel Kilgore went on injured reserve. Johnson started 24 games with the New York Jets the previous three seasons.
