It’s no secret the San Francisco 49ers needed to take a linebacker sometime in the 2018 NFL Draft. Veteran Malcolm Smith was out for the season a year ago and will just now take his place in the defense, Brock Coyle has a torn labrum and won’t be back for a while and Reuben Foster still has his legal issues to sort out.
Besides which, upgrades and depth are always welcome.
But Fred Warner, taken in Round 3 by San Francisco, may end up being more than just depth.
