When the San Francisco 49ers selected former Southern Mississippi defensive back Tarvarius Moore in Round 3 of the 2018 NFL Draft, they envisioned the 6-foot-2, 200 pounder as a transition piece to boundary cornerback.
After all, Moore’s body fit the prototype. And his flashy 4.32 40-yard time at his pro day suggested he could keep up with the fastest of NFL wide receivers.
Entering 2019, and with Moore still learning the nuances of cornerback, the Niners may have a more pressing need. Fifth-year veteran Jimmie Ward suffered a broken collarbone during organized team activities, and he’ll be out between eight and 12 weeks.
