The San Francisco 49ers didn’t exactly get a lot out of their 2016 NFL Draft class.
Sure, defensive tackle DeForest Buckner ended up being the best find of the bunch. Yet then-general manager Trent Baalke managed to land something of a hidden gem in defensive lineman Ronald Blair in Round 5.
A situational and reserve player, Blair has managed to be a decent pass-rusher for the Niners. Last year, he finished tied for second in sacks with 5.5 alongside former 49ers EDGE Cassius Marsh.
But as San Francisco revealed by parting ways with Marsh during the offseason, finishing second in this category doesn’t guarantee a roster spot the following season.
