The 49ers recorded an impressive road win, if any preseason game can be called “impressive,” over the last year’s 12-4 Chiefs. However, the win was built on the team’s backups. The first team defense and offense left the game with a 7-0 deficit.
The starters’ performance was ragged, even sloppy. But it wasn’t all bad. Here are some impressions from the debut of new coach Kyle Shanahan’s starters in their eventual 27-17 preseason opening-game win over in Kansas City.
1. Rashard Robinson had a season’s worth of ups and downs in one game by giving up two deep passes and then picking off a pass and making a sure tackle in the run game.
