Jared Goff’s longtime football friends still aren’t certain how to process this moment.
On one hand, Goff’s presence in Super Bowl LIII as the Rams quarterback comes as no surprise given the Novato native’s talent, propensity for hard work and a demeanor befitting the Joe Montana No. 16 he’s worn since his youth.
Then again, this is the Super Bowl. Against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, no less. The entire world is watching, hanging on Goff’s every word. The guy who has never seemed interested in being a star or acting like one is suddenly on center stage.
