The San Francisco 49ers should be eyeing a replacement for third-year pro tight end Vance McDonald after what happened in Week 15 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
McDonald was directly responsible for two of quarterback Blaine Gabbert’s three interceptions during the 49ers’ 24-14 loss to the Bengals at Levi’s Stadium. McDonald saw both passes bounce right off his hands and into the waiting arms of Cincinnati’s defense.
And his effort should be the final exclamation point on his future with San Francisco.
Turnovers, and continuing problems on third downs, drowned any chances the 49ers had to upset the now 11-3 Bengals, who secured the AFC North crown with the victory.
