For years and year, the San Francisco 49ers played within a box.
It was an imaginary box they created by not addressing the one biggest and perhaps most overlooked idea on the NFL- the deep threat.
Sure, every team talks about it, but not every team addresses the need. In the case of the 49ers, you can go back to 2006 as being the last time San Francisco had a legitimate deep threat, when the team signed Antonio Bryant. In a game against St. Louis, Bryant scored on a 72-yard bomb from Alex Smith, which to this day, remains the second longest touchdown pass of his career.
