Now that the 49ers have presumably settled on their next coach, the question now becomes, how will they support him?
In the past, the 49ers had outstanding coaches in Bill Walsh, George Seifert and even Steve Mariucci. But what they also had was a system that supported those coaches and their staffs.
For example, the organization realized that Walsh was brilliant but extremely insecure. Consequently, then owner Eddie DeBartolo and more so Carmen Policy and John McVay, made sure they listened to Walsh’s concerns and kept him focused on talent acquisition and game planning. This strategy kept Walsh from getting overwhelmed.
