Before Jimmy Garoppolo’s first start on Dec. 3 in Chicago, the 49ers ranked 21st in the NFL in total offense, which is where they’ve resided for most of the past 14 seasons: The 49ers have ranked inside the league’s top 20 just once since 2003.
With Garoppolo, however, the 49ers are on a rare offensive roll, totaling 388, 416 and 414 yards, respectively. Those aren’t Greatest Show on Turf numbers, but they are good. And it marks the 49ers’ most consistent streak of offensive production in quite some time.
Consider:
*** Before Garoppolo, the 49ers hadn’t totaled 388-plus yards in three consecutive games since December 2003.
