Cooper fell below the radar as a high school recruit from Illinois, so he took a scholarship at Bowling Green. He started at left tackle as a redshirt freshman, but wanted to play for a major program so he transferred to the College of DuPage to catch the eyes of recruiters, rather than sitting out a year as a transfer. Ole Miss gladly welcomed him as a starter in 2014 (11 at right tackle, two at left tackle) and he continued to excel with the Rebels as a senior, starting for the suspended Laremy Tunsil the first seven games of the year before moving back to the right side.
