The De La Salle football team is used to playing against high-profile teams.
The Spartans’ first opponent of the 2019 season, St. Thomas Aquinas of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, certainly fits the bill.
Starting with their first championship in 1992, Aquinas has won 10 state titles and regularly features players that go on to star in the NCAA and even the NFL. The 2011 team that De La Salle played, for instance, its defensive line included the Los Angeles Chargers’ Joey Bosa and the Carolina Panthers’ Bryan Cox Jr.
Bosa had six solo tackles and one fumble recovery in that 2011 game, a 30-6 Raiders win.
