Often those at the top of their possessions are perfectionists who attempt to control unknown outcomes. Going into the 49ers’ last Super Bowl (in January of 1995), right tackle Harris Barton was such a player.
As a 15-point favorite over the Chargers, Barton was still consumed with worry the night before the game took place in Miami. He called his fellow offensive linemen and scheduled an extra film session for the morning of the game. Finally, Barton could relax, or so he thought.
