State ethics agency investigating Levi’s Stadium manager for conflicts of interest

SANTA CLARA — The state ethics watchdog is investigating accusations that the general manager of Levi’s Stadium violated conflict of interest laws when he bought stock in two companies that do work for the stadium.

In a letter to the city of Santa Clara last week, the Fair Political Practices Commission said it would investigate the city’s complaint about Jim Mercurio, the general manager of the city-owned stadium and an employee of the San Francisco 49ers.

Mercurio is not a city employee, but as stadium manager, he can approve certain public contracts and expenses that the city will ultimately pay for.
