The 49ers are working toward a multi-year contract extension to prevent defensive lineman Tony Jerod-Eddie from becoming a restricted free agent, a source told CSNBayArea.com.
The free-agent signing period opens Wednesday at 1 p.m.
Jerod-Eddie was not included on Tuesday when the 49ers announced qualifying offers to restricted and exclusive-rights free agents Michael Wilhoite and guard Jordan Devey. The 49ers are making progress toward a new deal to prevent Jerod-Eddie from becoming a restricted free agent.
A new contract for Jerod-Eddie would make him the third 49ers defensive lineman to sign a contract extension within the past two weeks.
