SANTA CLARA – The 49ers informed veteran cornerback Chris Cook of his release on Wednesday morning, a source told CSNBayArea.com.
Cook appeared in six games last season before sustaining a season-ending hamstring injury. The 49ers re-signed Cook to a one-year contract in the offseason that included a reported $650,000 guaranteed.
Cook started 29 games over his first four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.
The 49ers have not made a corresponding roster move.
