Veteran center Tim Barnes, who started 32 games the past two seasons with the Rams, is expected to sign as a free agent with the 49ers, a league source confirmed to NBC Sports Bay Area.
Barnes took part in an extended tryout last week during the 49ers’ voluntary veteran minicamp in Santa Clara. He took part in all drills, including 11-on-11 sessions. The 49ers did not draft an offensive lineman for the first time since 2009.
Barnes, 28, is one of two veteran offensive linemen the 49ers are expected to sign. The 49ers are also expected to finalize a deal with former Minnesota guard Brandon Fusco, who started all 64 games in which he appeared over the past five seasons.
