CLEVELAND – During the offseason program and training camp, the 49ers viewed Marcus Martin as a guard.
Just before the start of the regular season, the team decided Joe Looney was not the answer at center. He was released. Martin slid over to center, where he struggled as the starter in the regular season. On Sunday, Martin made his 13th consecutive start, but moved back to guard, where he played most of the second half in place of injured Alex Boone.
Daniel Kilgore, who opened 2014 as the center before a fractured lower leg knocked him out of the lineup for more than a year, finally returned to reclaim his spot.
