Siku, a 23-year-old walrus with a sweet temperament, the appeal of a movie star and the skills of pro football player, has died at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, park officials announced Friday.
“She was one of the most popular and memorable animals we’ve ever had here at the park and she educated and touched millions of our guests over the years; contributed greatly to the world’s knowledge and understanding of this species,” park President Don McCoy said in a statement.
Siku was one of four orphaned walrus calves rescued in 1994 from a Native American subsistence program in Gambell, Alaska, Six Flags spokeswoman Nancy Chan said.
