An Arkansas sheriff is denying he dressed inmates in Nike shirts for mug-shot photos in order to mock Colin Kaepernick and the sports gear company.
Fox 16 reported Thursday that Sheriff Ricky Roberts claimed the shirts were given to people who came into their jail without "proper attire during the booking process." He also said the sheriff's office did not purchase the shirts — they just happened to be lying around.

Roberts did not elaborate on what constituted "improper attire," but he did give the following statement:
"We are not, and will not, be influenced by current political and social debates in the media.
