The San Francisco 49ers‘ 2017 pass rush wasn’t particularly great, finishing 26th in the league with just 30 sacks. And yet the Niners elected not to pick up the 2018 option on veteran EDGE Elvis Dumervil this offseason.
Dumervil led San Francisco’s defense last season with 6.5 sacks, getting over the 100-sack plateau and now sitting at 105.5 in his storied career.
With Dumervil turning 34 years old, and the 49ers focusing on the youth movement the last season-plus, it makes some sense general John Lynch and Co. would want to go another direction.
