In 2019, San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch traded away veteran linebacker Dekoda Watson to the Denver Broncos and a sixth-round pick in that year’s NFL Draft for Denver’s fifth-round pick, No. 148 overall.
The Niners subsequently selected former Arkansas linebacker Dre Greenlaw in that spot.
This deal worked out pretty well for San Francisco, to say the least, as Greenlaw quickly rose from someone potentially on the fringes of the roster into a regular starter and major impact player for the 49ers defense.
Lynch’s transaction involving Watson to get Greenlaw paints a possible precedent.
