The NFL owners are expected to pass a new rule banning players from leaping across the line of scrimmage in an attempt to block field goals and extra points, according to ESPN Adam Schefter.
According to Schefter, the NFL views the play as too dangerous for the game, where players can seriously injure themselves. In an effort to promote player safety, I would have to agree. The proposal was ignited by the Philadelphia Eagles and backed by the NFL Players Association (NFLPA).
On a conference call last week, vice president of officiating Dean Blandino explained the logic behind the rule.
