Gould came to the 49ers in 2017, the same year as Shanahan and general manager John Lynch, after 10 years with Chicago and one with the New York Giants. In the ensuing years, Gould started nearly every game, including three NFL title games and a Super Bowl.
Gould ranks 8th all time in field goals made (447) and field goal percentage (86.46) but his true value has come in the postseason. He's never missed a kick in the playoffs, going a perfect 39-for-39 on extra point attempts and 29-for-29 on field goals during the playoffs. One of Gould’s shining moments as a 49er came in the 2022 divisional round when he connected on a 45-yard game-sealing field goal in the snow to take down the top-seeded Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.
