The 49ers special teams have been a source of frustration throughout the season. On top of erratic kicking production from Mitch Wishnowsky and Robbie Gould, the Niners have surrendered several inexcusable big plays. However, in last week’s win over the Texans, the 49ers special teams looked to be trending in the right direction.
Kickoff and punt coverage has been an area of struggle for the 49ers this season, but Houston could not find much success in their return game. Three of the Texans’ five kickoff returns failed to surpass their own 20-yard line, and their only somewhat lengthy return came off a 52-yard punt by Wishnowsky.
