SAN JOSE — San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster pleaded not guilty to felony domestic violence and weapons charges Tuesday, paving the way for a potentially swift trial.
After declining to waive his right to a speedy trial, Foster is set to have a preliminary hearing May 17.
The decision creates pressure and a tight window for prosecutors to present their case at the preliminary hearing, where a judge will evaluate the evidence of the case and decide whether to send to a jury for trial.
The shortened timeline could present a challenge in building a solid case against Foster, especially given that his accuser, a former live-in girlfriend, has since recanted her allegations and offered a video she contends shows her injuries did not come from the Feb.
