The San Francisco 49ers may actually be getting some much-needed reinforcement back just before the start of their 2016 training camp.
Anthony Davis, the retired right tackle who left the Niners just before 2015, tweeted out that his official reinstatement papers have been submitted. His tweet broke just before 1 p.m. ET on Monday.
Davis abruptly retired just before the 2015 season, citing a need to let his “mind and body” heal.
The move put San Francisco, already going through a whirlwind of problems that offseason, into a precarious position at right tackle. The 49ers ended up setting on veteran offensive lineman Erik Pears, who ended up grading out with a minus-30.
