On Friday, after the 49ers drafted Southern Miss’ Tarvarius Moore in the third round, general manager John Lynch explained the appeal of the defensive back with a fairly modest college resume.
“You have to be able to run to play (cornerback) in this league,” Lynch said, “and he can flat out run.”
The need for speed at the position explains why Florida State’s Tarvarus McFadden, a cornerback with a decorated college resume, was not among the 256 players drafted. McFadden will sign a free-agent contract with the 49ers, the NFL Network reported Saturday. The 49ers hosted McFadden on one of their 30 pre-draft visits.
