Report: 49ers plan to interview Cardinals executive McDonough

Arizona Cardinals executive Terry McDonough, whose 25-year NFL career began as an intern with the 49ers in 1989, is expected to interview with San Francisco on Friday for their general-manager opening, CSN Bay Area reported.

McDonough has spent the last four years with Arizona, including the last three as their vice president of player personnel. In his current role, he leads its college and pro personnel departments and also is involved in contract negotiations. He was with the Jaguars from 2003-13, serving as their director of player personnel during his final four seasons.

McDonough is the son of the late Will McDonough, a noted Boston Globe sportswriter who also worked for CBS and NBC.
