The Athletic’s Matt Barrows tweeted that the 49ers are believed to be one of the teams interested in signing free agent tight end Zach Ertz. San Francisco just lost Ross Dwelley to a high-ankle sprain, and that could land him on the injured reserve list, opening up a roster spot and a need at tight end.
The 49ers options at tight end after George Kittle consist of Charlie Woerner, who is a terrific blocker, but not much of a pass-catching threat. Seventh-round rookie Brayden Willis and Jake Tonges on the practice squad are the other tight ends on the roster.
