Linebacker Aldon Smith is no longer with the 49ers.
The talented, yet troubled pass-rusher was released from the team following his fifth arrest in what was a promising and sad tenure with San Francisco.
Head coach Jim Tomsula had, perhaps, his finest moment at the helm of the franchise following Smith’s departure.
“It’s a sad day,” Tomsula said via the team’s website. “This is a day that doesn’t have anything to do with football. Although he won’t will be playing football for the San Francisco 49ers, he will be supported, and he will be helped.
