SANTA CLARA – One week into training camp, the 49ers’ decision-makers had seen enough to make judgment on the team's crop of cornerbacks.
The emergence of a group of young cornerbacks prompted the 49ers to cut veteran Chris Cook, whom the club signed to a one-year contract in the offseason. Cook started 21 games with the Minnesota Vikings in 2012 and ’13 before originally signing with the 49ers a year ago.
“No. 1, they’re looking for a younger guy to step up and be a part of the defense,” 49ers cornerback Keith Reaser said. “It also tells you if I’m not getting it done or whatever, I can be gone as well.
