Let’s start with the fact that nobody really knows how the picks will pan out. Nobody. In the NFL draft, sure things are never sure things. The unsure things go on to win Super Bowls and marry supermodels.
That said, if the 49ers reached to the point in their pre-draft strategizing about their No. 2 overall pick where they needed to choose between taking a quarterback like Mitchell Trubisky or a defensive lineman like Solomon Thomas . . . well, new general manager John Lynch is a Stanford guy. But he didn’t need his Stanford brain to make the decision.
