The 49ers began overhauling the bottom of their 90-man roster Tuesday by releasing 13 players, a group that included nose tackle Mike Purcell, wide receiver Eric Rogers and inside linebacker Shayne Skov.
The next step: The 49ers will fill many of those spots with undrafted rookies.
After selecting a 10-man draft class, the 49ers are expected to sign 17 rookie free agents. As a result, they released players to make room for the rookies on the roster.
The other 10 released were: OL Alex Balducci, S Marcus Ball, LB Carl Bradford, LB Jayson DiManche; TE Je’Ron Hamm, WR Chris Harper, LB Wynton McManis, P Brock Miller, DL Zach Moore and CB JaCorey Shepherd.
